What is Spots op West?
Spots op West is an amateur theatre festival organized on a yearly basis in Westouter, Heuvelland, a hospitable theatre village in Belgium’s far west corner, the theatre of the 1914-1918 World War.
Spots op West wants to offer a diverse program with a rich overview of what amateur theatre has to offer today. Performances come from nearby and from far away. The charm of the festival is hidden in the small scaled locations where the performances are set. You will be doing your show in a warehouse, a shed an old church, in the street, in a forest, just anything is possible...
You will not only be watching theatre. Different workshops for youngsters and adults will enable you to participate in creating theatre and to encounter the diverse aspects of producing a performance. You will present your show at the end of the festival period.
The Westouter village green with a large mirror tent, behind the old church, is the central meeting point of the festival. You will find what you need if you are looking for a good chat over a cool Belgian beer.
Spots op West was created more than ten years ago as a cooperation between OPENDOEK, the Flemish governmental organization for amateur theatre and local volunteers.
In 2015 Spots op West went international for once with participants from around the world. During the festival AITA/IATA asbl held its bi-annual General Assembly and Congress in the nearby city of Ieper/Ypres.
